ARREST AFTER SOUTH EASTERN FREEWAY FIXED SPEED CAMERAS SMASHED AGAIN AND VANDALS TARGET CAMERAS ACROSS THE CITY

DAVID NANKERVIS The Advertiser December 10, 2013

Here is one way to deal with these intrusive revenue raising devices
POLICE have arrested a 22-year-old man from Adelaide's southern suburbs for allegedly vandalising 21 speed cameras on the South Eastern Freeway and across Adelaide in the past fortnight

The man is in police custody and is expected to be charged with 21 counts of property damage, possession of a prohibited weapon.

Police seized a crossbow and a quantity of marbles at the man's address.

It is expected he will be released on bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court at a date yet to be confirmed.

Police said the cameras were damaged by high velocity missiles fired at their glass lens.

Cameras in the western suburbs were targeted overnight after attacks were made in the past two weeks on cameras in the eastern and southern suburbs.

Police refused to release the damaged camera's locations but said they were repaired and made operational as soon as possible.

It is known, however, that the new freeway cameras in the Adelaide Hills have also been attacked twice since Friday.

It is also reported the high revenue raising camera at Glover Tce (near Adelaide High School) as well as one on Leader St, Wayville, were targeted.

The hi-tech freeway cameras - located near the Crafers and Mt Osmond interchanges - were switched on nine days ago and are expected to generate more than $1.6 million in fines by the end of this financial year.
